    The application and development of advanced control techniques for hydroelectric unit recently are summarized in this paper. Considering the recent developing of automatic generation control, the paper emphasizes the application of advanced control techniques in hydroelectric unit control, especially intelligent control. At last, the development and further direction of advanced control techniques for hydroelectric unit are proposed
