Abstract
A series of tests was begun in June 1985 to determine the performance characteristics of solid-state cameras. The purpose was to uncover the strengths and weaknesses of these cameras and help to determine their suitability for various security applications. The tests focused on those characteristics that are most desirable for the more demanding exterior applications: resolution, sensitivity, contrast, and low smear. Other observations included noise level, conformity to standards, and environmental tolerances. The results of these tests, as well as a description of the test equipment and procedures, are presented
