The electronic equipment of the group E402 locomotive for the Italian State Railways

Power electronics and the use of asynchronous motors have made it possible to produce the locomotive within a maximum weight of 82 tons, with two-axle bogies which are much lighter than with commutator motors, and with considerably reduced unsuspended masses. The E402 locomotive has considerably more specific power than the previous Italian State Railways locomotives, despite the redundancy of various pieces of equipment on board.
