Multiplex push pull control of traction on British Rail

British Rail has recently initiated the industrial development of specified multiplex push pull control equipment for electric locomotive applications. The authors show how investigations were carried out in order to: assess the validity of the performance requirements in this specification; to prove the feasibility of operating processor-based equipment in the hostile environment of an electric locomotive; and to acquaint the manufacturers of the equipment with the railway environment
