Abstract
This paper presents a summary of transient overvoltage mitigation techniques and their associated modeling and simulation considerations for transmission and distribution system capacitor banks. An overview of capacitor energizing transients and guidelines related to the usage of the Electromagnetic Transients Program are provided for the evaluation of capacitor switching mitigation options. Example cases illustrating the various mitigation techniques are also provided
