Abstract :
The scattering of magnetostatic waves (MSW) by a traveling grating generated by surface acoustic waves (SAWs) propagating in the same magnetic garnet film was investigated experimentally. Results show the conditions for efficient Bragg scattering of the MSW by SAWs at different angles between the two waves. The spectra of the scattered MSW incident on the SAW grating at angles θ=0°, 40° and 180° are reported as sample cases. The accompanying Doppler shift is equal to the SAW frequency, with the sign of the frequency shift depending on the relative direction of MSW propagation with respect to SAW, as predicted by the coupled-mode theory
