Abstract
A methodology and applications of a computer-aided classification and coding system for the casting industry are presented. The system is centered around a code structure database, which can accommodate the needs of different system users and allow for change and expansion. The difficulties in developing a classification and coding scheme for the casting industry are enumerated. The GT (group technology) system developed was implemented in a company to support process-planning operation
