Abstract :
The rotor windings of large generators are usually cooled by hydrogen flowing through ducts within the winding. A detailed computer model, ROTH, has been developed to predict asymmetric temperature distributions. The original version was limited to rotors with axial cooling, but now it has been extended to handle radially-cooled rotors. The approximate method for estimating thermal bend has also been greatly improved. The author describes these enhancements, and validates them by comparing them with a simplified analytical solution, with an independently developed computer program and with limited experimental data
