Abstract
The rotor windings of large generators are usually cooled by hydrogen flowing through ducts within the winding. To obtain fundamental information on the flow and heat transfer behaviour of such cooling ducts, a rig has been constructed at the Central Electricity Research Laboratories to study a heated duct rotating about a parallel axis. Results obtained so far suggest an increase in friction factor of about 10% for fully-developed flow in a heated duct, for conditions corresponding to those in large generators
