Abstract
Frequency response methods are becoming the standard means for the determination of the parameters of synchronous machines for transient stability studies. A new procedure for the determination of the time constants required to fit the frequency responses of the measured operational inductances of synchronous machines is described. The procedure does not require prior knowledge of the order of the model to be used, it is founded on well established principles of linear control theory and is found to work well for the equivalent circuits used for synchronous machines
