Abstract :
The Botswana Telecommunications Corp., (BTC) has set as its task to provide an automatic telephone service to as many villages as possible with a population in excess of 500. A selection of the technologies used to meet the comparatively small capacity of transmission and switching requirements of the BTC is discussed. These include radio transmission systems, multi-access radio systems, point to point digital radio systems, point to point analogue radio systems, HF radio systems, line transmission systems, open-wire trunk carrier, open-wire subscriber carrier, and cable systems. Several other technologies have been examined and a brief synopsis of these is included
