Abstract :
The Independent Broadcasting Authority is arranging for the introduction of DBS in the United Kingdom in 1989. The IBA´s programme contractor, British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB), has put forward programming proposals including a 24-hour news and events channel, a general entertainment channel and a third channel divided between children and families at home in the daytime and a premium film service at night. BSB is also responsible for the space segment. The author looks at the background to these new developments
