Abstract :
A key feature (in ballistic missile defence and intelligence gathering radars) is the formulation of the turret control policy and its feedback relationship to radar activity planning. The radar resource management process is discussed. The results of the radar planning algorithm, referred to as the radar plan, are provided to the turret policy control algorithm to formulate the sequence of turret pointing directions, referred to as the turret trajectory. The turret control policy algorithm functions as a feedback controller to the radar planning algorithm in that the radar plan is continually adjusted to account for the scan losses and field-of-view constraints of the current turret trajectory. Candidate turret control algorithms are considered. The radar scheduler generates the sequences of commands for controlling the radar and turret subsystems. A detailed simulation of the proposed architecture including time-ordered planning and priority-based linear quadratic tracking provides the preliminary results on which the discussion is based
