Abstract :
Research work in the BBC had concentrated on investigating the various processes and algorithms, etc., which would be required to implement digital equivalents of existing analogue equipment. Work on recording inevitably led to the question of editing. Although the requirement to edit digital recordings by physically cutting the tape was expected to be retained, it became apparent that the process could be considerably enhanced if some electronic buffer storage were provided
