Abstract
In the short term the SSVR (solid state video recorder) offers an increased range of facilities and faster operation that will bring about a change in the way in which many productions are made. The major impact will be, in the first instance, on the production of commercials, music videos and similar items with running times measured in seconds. By 1989/90 the arrival of the pin-compatible 4 Mbit DRAM will extend SSVR storage capacity to more than five minutes and SSVR will displace mechanical recording media in a growing range of applications
