Abstract
We develop a Windows based cam design and manufacturing simulation system. First, general equations for the profile of disc cam are derived by defining 3 parameters, the direction of cam rotation, direction of follower bias and forward & backward bias, which greatly simplifies the computer programming for the computation of coordinates of cam profile. Then, a parameterized three-dimensional cam geometry modeling function is implemented by using the automation interface provided by CATIA. Last, the computation results and numerical control program is verified by Yulong NC manufacturing simulation system.
