Abstract
An analytical theory which describes the operation of a Brillouin laser is presented. This theory explicitly predicts the threshold power, conversion efficiency, cavity gain, and the saturation regime in terms of the resonator parameters. The importance of having a very low loss, high finesse resonator is shown. It can be seen that by optimizing the coupling coefficient, loop length and the pump power, the conversion efficiency and the stability of the cavity can be maximized
