Abstract :
The paper discusses the application of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) in the domestic sectors. Side effects of CFLs, such as harmonic distortion, lower than expected energy conservation, dependence of efficiency on warm-up time, external temperature and “burning” position are analyzed. Although the findings indicate that the CFLs may bring some benefits both to customers and power supply utilities, when promoting the CFLs, customers should be informed about all these side effects
