  • Abstract
    A new technique is reported for minimizing splice loss between conventional and dispersion-flattened single-mode fibres by slightly tapering the splice. Optimal taper ratios are calculated theoretically, considering profile-diffusion processes. Considerable loss reduction is verified experimentally
