  • Abstract
This paper describes the successful application of management techniques to a R&D power project created for developing new technologies to reduce connection costs of low income customers to the power utility grid. Such innovations will speed up the process of extending the power supplying benefits to all inhabitants of the Bahia State, in Brazil, through a program called universalization. The paper shows the R&D projects rules established by the Brazilian regulatory agency and the scenery in which this project was conceived. It describes the project management approach used to cope with the challenges ahead of us, the project planning, organization and execution details of the entire process. The products were successfully developed and they are finally shown with recommendations for the future of such products.
