Abstract
The European Wide Service Exchange (EWSE) is an Internet based information service developed for the European Community´s Centre for Earth Observation (CEO). Its purpose is to implement and prototype elements of the electronic part of the future CEO system, using current World Wide Web technology. It acts as a testbed for the CEO in this area of rapidly evolving technology. EWSE has been designed to address some of the principal objectives of CEO. First, it must help users and providers of Earth Observation data and services find each other. Second, it must attract potential new users of EO data and services. EWSE is unlike most current Web based services, because it handles session tracking. This allows EWSE to be a dynamically changing information system reflecting current data entered by all its registered users. Each user and organisation has virtual web pages which they can update and customise remotely
