Abstract
This paper discusses a study of automotive vehicle control in which the overall aim is the development of a coordinated vehicle control system capable of integrating the actions of the various vehicle subsystems (propulsion, suspension and steering). The study of vehicle control, viewed as a total system composed of interacting subsystems, is introduced as the concept of motion management. The paper presents a brief overview of past and current developments in automotive vehicle control as foundation for discussion of the motion management concept. The paper also considers mathematical modelling techniques and dynamic simulation facilities necessary to support motion management studies in automotive vehicles
