  • Abstract
Quantitative feedback theory (QFT) is used to design a robust controller which reduces the loop sensitivity to parameter variations for a desired response. To ameliorate the trade-off between sensitivity and sensor noise amplification highlighted by Gawthrop (1988) the robust controller is used as a coarse controller and self-tuning is used for fine tuning around the loop. The paper also investigates the quality of control through computer simulation. The design procedure adopted in Horowitz and Sidi (1972) and Farsi et al. (1989) is very complex, so, a computer package PC-Matlab, has been developed to ease the various steps
