Abstract
Deals with the application of loop shaping controller design methods to a binary distillation problem: The reversed frame normalizing technique and a H $OI robust stabilization procedure based on a normalized coprime factorization of the plant model are used to design linear multivariable controllers for a distillation column on pilot-plant scale. Basic plant features and the most fundamental aspects of both design techniques are discussed. Experimental evidence is given to illustrate advantages and disadvantages of both methods
