Abstract :
This paper considers the power efficiency and transmission range optimization of wireless sensor nodes. A power consumption model is proposed, and the parameters are presented for several commercially available low-power wireless sensor node devices. Then the optimal transmission ranges to achieve the most energy efficiency are obtained for wireless sensor source nodes and relay nodes, respectively. The power saving for multi-hop transmission is investigated by adopting the optimal transmission range. Numerical results are presented to compare the energy efficiency performance under different scenarios.
