Abstract
The discipline pertaining to the structured, integrated design and updating of Healthcare platforms, for example hospitals and their contained and interconnecting systems, is no different from the design and updating of military platforms, for example airfields, and their contained and interconnecting systems, and indeed, platforms and systems in the oil industry. Further, in terms of updates and improvements, or the resolution of operational problems, across the whole of Healthcare, it is possible, through the understanding of the design discipline for the new, to recognise, recover, or discover, the design of the existing, and thereby redesign, improve, or modernise the existing, by means of a common, repeatable discipline. There is therefore the need across all design endeavours, to employ a common design approach, or method. (It is not possible to include, within this short paper, relevant material from the literature and contained within email discussions between the author and INCOSE colleagues in the UK, USA and Australia.).
