Abstract
This paper summarizes the current NIST effort to develop a new calculable capacitor, focusing on issues associated with the alignment of the four main electrodes. Results presented demonstrate how precision manufacturing and engineering design concepts have been used to create a compact, stable capacitor the alignment of which can be achieved through the use of simple optical levers.
