Abstract :
MPT1375, the UK common air interface (CAI) specification for the second generation of cordless telephones (CT2), represents a synthesis of ideas from a number of UK companies and some from continental Europe. Although triggered by the needs of the telepoint service, the CAI is fully featured for two-way communication. The present telepoint service offers only outgoing calls, but the CAI also allows for incoming calls. The authors impart a flavour of the specification including a short history of the standard which will serve to illustrate the key objectives which coloured the specification and which may explain why many features were either included or omitted
