Abstract
Summary form only given. To develop a plan for making the National Institutes of Health (NIH) optimally effective in meeting its mission of improving human health and quality of life, a "NIH roadmap" was developed and is being implemented. The roadmap is a ten-year plan that is aimed at accelerating the pace of discoveries in the life sciences, rapidly translating discoveries into practice, and building an integrated system that is far more effective than current approaches. The presentation will cover specific focus areas associated with these objectives, related funding opportunities, and implications for the future of biomedical research.
