Abstract
The semantic WEB technology has the potentiality to be applied in different areas. eLearning is one of the domains which may benefit from this new WEB technology. This paper focuses on potential uses of semantic WEB technology in eLearning and advantages of using ontology to describe learning materials. This requires development and open integration of several technologies: ontologies, semantic indexing, and document substructure annotation. Our approach aims at covering all these aspects and offers a conceptual architecture of semantic eLearning platforms. The proposed schemas also include the search functionalities able to exploit the semantic annotations for retrieving and composing new documents starting from the existing ones.
