Abstract :
Resilience for failure in networks has been studied by many researchers as one of important key factors to improve performance by dealing with unexpected event. Moreover, this feature becomes more important in MANET than existing networks because nodes´ free immigration causes unintended packet loss due to unstable topology caused by frequent links´ break. Without regard to the type of networks, maintaining multiple paths and connections can be good choice for robustness for failure. According to which layer this functionality is implemented in, resilience can be supported in a different way. In this paper, we investigate possible solutions in each layer and point out what problems remain because one solution in each layer is not enough to cope with network dynamics in MANET. Therefore, we develop a new cross- layered design to integrate the solution of each layer. Through simple simulation results, we demonstrate that it is feasible to adapt cross-layer design to improve packet delivery ratio.
