Abstract
The authors propose co-channel interference cancellation for a cellular spread-spectrum or code-division multiple access (CDMA) system based on multihop fast frequency hopping (FFH) and investigate the capacity of the cellular multihop-FFH/CDMA system. It is shown that the bit error probability for the proposed system can be superior to that for the cellular CDMA based on a direct-sequence CDMA system in a selective fading channel. Assuming that the interference cancellation system can eliminate the co-channel interference signal, the channel capacity of a cellular CDMA system based on a single-hop FFH scheme is superior to that of the multihop FFH scheme without using the interference cancellation system. However, for the proposed system, it is necessary to possess a large number of antenna elements in order to suppress the co-channel interference
