  • Abstract
The author gives a short overview on the necessity of improving the frequency-response of high definition camera tubes. Following an overview of various possibilities for improving the picture sharpness by using different digital circuits, it is shown why and how precautions to improve the signal-to-noise ratio must be taken, in order to achieve a really improved subjective picture impression with HDTV pictures. Using the BTS multistandard CPH 1000 digital image enhancer as an example, it becomes clear how much hardware circuitry is necessary in practice to turn the required functionality into fast, complex digital circuits using the latest technology, and how the disadvantages to be expected from a first development can be avoided in successive equipment development
