Abstract
The BBC´s FM network in the UK is being continuously expanded to fill-in the poorer reception areas. The population served by the newer sites becomes progressively smaller as coverage increases. This places considerable importance on minimising station costs. As the number of sites (and FM services) increases, finding usable frequencies also becomes more difficult. It is important that the transmission equipment does not impose further constraints on service planning. The authors describe equipment for low-power FM relay sites which has been designed with these factors very much in mind. The equipment has been named TARDIS (sTAndardised Receiver Drive Integrated System) which like its namesake. Contains inside a lot more than might be implied by its external dimensions
