Abstract :
The paper presents an estimation of the electrical field intensity on the surface of an aerial fibre cable suspended next to a high voltage transmission line. By analogy with the current on a heavily soiled petticoat surface, it is supposed the that value of the surface current can be some tens of milliamperes. Protection can be made by using a crimped cable sheath.
