Abstract :
The use of digital processing in a production switcher promises transparent performance, exemplary keying, precision and stability. To date however, only a few leading international post production operations can afford the investment in currently available compositing equipment. Other drawbacks preventing the faster adoption of fully digital installations are the limitations and expense of parallel interconnections, high power consumption and the operational unsuitability of current switchers for use in live operation. There are many applications such as live studio, mobiles, conventional post production and broadcast transmission requiring a cost effective digital production switcher with ample keying and effects power, but capable of fast, accurate operation and easy installation. The Sony DVS-8000 digital video switcher and mix effects device has been designed to satisfy these needs. The author describe the architecture and operation of this switcher
