Distributed switching in the rural/urban areas

The authors compare the costs of three typical but different methods of providing rural/urban area telecommunication services with the objective of offering same customer facilities. They are: (1) local cable, (2) remote line unit, and (3) remote stand alone switch. The economics of time saved in making customer connections are discussed and a comparison of small distributed switches vs. large central switches is included
