Expert planning system for copper smelter

The author highlights how complex algorithm contained in a multivariable system of copper smelter can be decomposed into simple ones with the aid of a limited set of models and methods. Also, an effort has been made to create an awareness on the application potential of the expert system by demonstrating how it is possible to build knowledge base with set of modules from the data base of asserted facts collected over a long period, rules established from the inter-relationships of system parameters set up through simplified mathematics and proven observations of plant dynamics. It is envisaged that, implementation of a properly developed expert system will definitely make a significant impact on the economy of smelter due to more even operation of Flash Furnace
