Abstract :
The authors present some of the extensive work underway at the University of Bristol in the field of feedforward amplifier linearization. Considerable research effort is being directed toward the design of a broadband highly linear amplifier, in order to permit a large number of channels to be amplified simultaneously and transparently. The intermodulation performance of such an amplifier needs to be extremely good and must also be maintained over a wide temperature range and long time period. Novel use of classical feedforward techniques is being made to achieve this goal. The setting-up procedures and methods of maintaining the performance of the amplifier are continuous, real-time processes and are fully automatic. They also do not require any additional `pilot-tone´ signals which may limit the flexibility and capacity of the amplifier
