Abstract
A stochastic approach is considered here in order to quantitatively characterize composite materials using an identification method. The distribution of inclusions inside the matrix medium is represented through a well fitted probabilistic law for the spacing between scatterers. The identification process consists in the determination of the relevant mathematical parameters, which give access to the local scatterer concentration. The theoretical results derived from our model are compared with the experimental findings for a collection of samples of carbon epoxy and metal matrix composites, using high frequency (between 10 and 100 MHz) ultrasonic waves
