Abstract
A new representation is introduced for the X-wave based on pulsed plane waves. Such representation is found to be quite useful in obtaining more insight into the physical meaning of the X-wave´s characteristics. The pulsed plane wave representation is used to study the behavior of X-wave normally and obliquely incident on a planar layered medium. By studying the properties of normally incident X-waves on a planar layered medium, it is found that reflections of X-wave can be used to obtain the properties of the layered medium as an inverse problem
