Abstract
The practice of engineering management has been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. However, the academic discipline of Engineering Management has existed for a little over forty years. Engineering Management was established as a M.S. program in 1965 at the University of Missouri- Rolla (now Missouri S & T). Today there are over 70 universities offering this important degree in the United States. In Europe, Engineering Management education is generally linked with Industrial Engineering. The largest Engineering Management organization in Europe is ESTIEM. In China, Engineering Management was introduced as an academic discipline in the mid-1980´s according to Dr. Zhongtuo Wang of Dalian University of Technology. Today there are over 150 universities offering Engineering Management programs in China.
