Abstract :
This paper investigates the performance of the usage parameter control (UPC) using unbuffered and buffered leaky bucket (LB) mechanism to control the variation in two parameters of the traffic, “peak (p) and mean bit rate (m)” for available bit rate (ABR) sources, to obtain less cell loss probability (CLPr) and achieve quality of service (QoS) requirements. After that we used feedback control loop as reactive control together with preventive control to improve this (QoS). The buffer occupancy of a network resource is used as an indication of congestion. Each source which used this path through the congested switch is informed to reduce its activity and the same information is sent to (UPC) to change its parameters. Numerical calculations and simulations are performed for different traffic sources
