Abstract
RFIDs are becoming ubiquitous in our social and economic lives, gradually transforming the environment into a smart space. In this paper we introduce SCOUT system built on a novel decentralized architecture for massive scale smart environments. SCOUT provides an underlying framework for efficient management of runtime activities and querying of smart object attributes. The architecture fulfills the need for dynamic attribute detection across a wide range of applications and can be deployed in diverse settings. The proposed SCOUT system can help management and attribute detection in scenarios such retailing, manufacturing, transportation and distribution industries. The advantage of the framework lies in its simplicity and ease of implementation. We present a set of results, by building a simulation environment as well as a workload generator, which highlight the proposed framework scalability.
