EMU-the Energy Management Unit

The energy management unit (EMU) is a multirate electronic meter designed to have communications facilities using radio teleswitch and telephone lines. It accepts pulses from gas and water meters, and can process these and electricity data to provide information which includes pricing to the customer on a separate display unit. It is currently the subject on an EEC supported demonstration project. The authors describe the purpose of the demonstration project, and the strategy for its implementation through stages of design and development of the unit, selection of customers for the field trial, installation of the unit and arrangements for collection of customer reactions during the trial
