Abstract :
The paper presents a road extraction process built in ELIA, which is a knowledge-based system for analyzing geographic information reflected in Landsat TM images. In the extraction process, the knowledge of roads is well organized. The process consists of (i) augmented edge primitive detection using long-shaped edge templates, (ii) edge clustering (iii) connection of fragmental road segments based on collinearity and perpendicularity, etc. The effectiveness of this method is shown in some experimental results
