Abstract :
In this paper power factor correction methods are being analyzed in view of their inclusion in lighting systems with compact fluorescent lamps. By means of computer simulation and practical measurements, passive solutions and classical dc-dc converters, in boost and buck-boost configuration with an electronic secondary function of power factor correction, are being explored. Their behavior under the special conditions when the load is represented by an inverter-tube unit is investigated and the advantages and disadvantages are pointed out. The obtained results help in an appropriate selection of a suitable technical, technological and economical solution.
