Abstract
Inter-image techniques revolve around two main ideas: (i) motion estimation; (ii) motion field segmentation (which is a vital compression operation performed on data to be transmitted). After a brief reminder of the motion estimation algorithm used, the main section of this paper deals with the motion field segmentation algorithm. The guiding principle behind it is the combination of motion informations and spatial contents from the sequence of original pictures. This paper is concerned with the so-called HDMAC, i.e. the transmission of the high definition signal on a MAC-type channel. High-definition television covers a range of techniques and developments including a whole chain of production, transmission and display, as well as connection to external systems
