Abstract :
The application of distance protection for distribution systems is becoming more frequent. In this work, an algorithm based on the wavelet transform of the travelling waves is presented. Furthermore, the behaviour of the Fourier, DEA, DEAMC and the proposed wavelet-based travelling wave (TW) algorithm has been evaluated and compared. The response time, the line parameter variation, the fault inception angle and the mutual coupling are considered in the study. The results show that the error of the proposed TW algorithm (1%) is lower than the one given by the DEAMC (1.9%) when the mutual coupling effects are present.
