Abstract
In this paper, we study the bandwidth restriction of NAT and its impact on peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming. A role-based NATed peers collaboration (RNPC) algorithm is proposed to minimize the consumption of bandwidth of NAT. RNPC algorithm assigns roles to NATed peers and makes the peers act cooperatively. We also discuss the implementation details of RNPC and apply it to mesh-based P2P streaming system. An Internet test bed is constructed to examine its performance. Experimental results show that RNPC can reduce the bandwidth competition and improve quality of service (QoS).
